Artists, such as Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Worhal, Joel-Peter Witkin, Robert Smithson, Robert Maplethorpe, Andre Serrano, Cindy Sherman and Andy Goldsworthy, have utilized photography extensively in their work.  We will investigate how these artists and others have made photography the critical media in Postmodern Art today.

Description

Reuter Center, headquarters for the Center for Creative Retirement, opened its doors in the summer of 2003 after a five year planning, fund raising, and building campaign. It is located on the north side of the UNCA campus on a hill overlooking the area.

Reuter Center

This new facility is named in honor of Irving J. Reuter, a former General Motors executive who left his estate to establish the Janirve Foundation, a major building fund contributor. The cost of the 20,000-square-foot building, movable equipment, and landscaping totaled about $4.3 million, all provided by private sources, including individual donors, businesses and corporations, as well as foundations. The two-story, glass atrium Reuter Center includes three classrooms (one equipped with multimedia capability), an art studio classroom, computer lab, multipurpose room (also equipped for multimedia use) that seat about 250, catering kitchen, take-out cafe, two commons areas, restrooms on both floors, a large outdoor terrace area, and on-grade parking on both levels for a total of 129 cars.

Space in Reuter Center is available to the campus and the public organizations when not in use.

During term times the Reuter Café on the lower level of the Reuter Center serves simple lunches and beverages.
