Home Laurel Guidelines

The members of f/32 Photography Group of Asheville have the privilege of providing The Laurel of Asheville Magazine with an article on photography each month.
http://www.thelaurelofasheville.com/

If you would like to submit an article for consideration, please note the following guidelines:

  • Keep the article fairly brief. Submissions should be approximately 400 words.
  • Articles MUST BE about a technique, fun shooting location, style or other photo related topic. No vacation recaps, no self promotion articles. Please proof the article for typos and spelling errors. Don't just use spell-check!
  • The Laurel of Asheville Magazine prefers to runs article or photos that are season specific in the appropriate issue - ie leaves in the fall, flowers in the spring, etc. Articles that are not season specific can be run most any time. If you have a specific month in mind, you can request it, but there are no guarantees that your article will be published in that month. The final decision is made by The Laurel of Asheville Magazine and not Susan. If you need clarification please contact Susan.
  • Include 4-5 images at 300 dpi and approximately 5x7 in size. Susan will NOT resize them
  • Photos MUST BE clean -- no lint, water spots, over sharpening or blur as they will be rejected.
  • Keep in mind what would be fun for the readers. The article should be upbeat, conversational, and informative. Think about what you would like to read if you were an amateur photographer just picking up the magazine.
  • Try to include a photography tip. (The best time to shoot this subject is ____, or the best settings for this type of image are ____).
  • Be sure to include a bio and contact information.
  • Make sure you include a .doc version of the article on the CD.

  • Any articles/images that do not comply with the guidelines will be not be considered for publication.

Save your article and images to a CD and deliver it Susan Stanton. Articles are selected based on whether they meet the above guidelines, seasonal appropriateness (if applicable), and content. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email Susan Stanton
