Why Chimney Rock?
Chimney Rock, an iconic Southeast travel destination, is home to soaring rock cliffs, a stunning diversity of colorful deciduous trees and rare species of animal and plant life, including 130 species of birds. The park’s 535-million-year-old Chimney offers guests 75-mile panoramic views of Hickory Nut Gorge. At 404 feet, Hickory Nut Falls is one of the highest waterfalls of its kind in the eastern U.S. Conveniently located 25 miles SE of Asheville, NC, the park’s rugged natural beauty was in the spotlight in the 1992 epic romantic adventure The Last of the Mohicans starring Daniel Day-Lewis. Dirty Dancing was filmed just a mile east at Lake Lure, named one of the world’s most beautiful man-made lakes by National Geographic. To celebrate its incredible scenery, Chimney Rock hosts an annual photo contest for amateur and professional photographers. Learn more at chimneyrockpark.com.
